XRP overview
XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger, known for low-cost transfers that settle in seconds. It is used for payments between financial institutions and for cross-border transfers, with destination tags identifying recipients.
An asset designed for transfers
XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger. Transactions usually finalize in a few seconds and the fee is very small. The design targets uses that move value often and quickly, such as cross-border payments and balancing accounts between institutions.
An account must keep a small XRP reserve to stay open. If a wallet will not let you send the full balance, that reserve is a common reason.
This is not Ethereum-style staking
The XRP Ledger is neither mined nor a typical proof-of-stake system that selects validators by locked coins. Validators agree on the same ledger in a short round. Locking XRP does not make the protocol pay interest automatically.
폴리젠's XRP product locks a chosen amount for a term and applies the reward rate quoted at application. Do not treat a platform reward schedule as protocol yield.
Leaving off the destination tag
Exchange-style deposits share one address among many customers. A numeric destination tag says whose payment it is. A correct address with a missing tag makes the sender hard to identify, and the transfer can be delayed or impossible to recover.
- If the application screen shows a tag, enter that exact value in the sending wallet's tag field.
- Wallets label the field memo, tag or destination tag. Check the meaning before you send.
- Even a personal wallet must include the tag when the recipient requires one.
Price and regulatory news
XRP's price reacts sharply to payment demand and regulatory headlines. A larger coin count does not move in lockstep with fiat value. If you already know when you need the money, account for the fact that you cannot sell before maturity.
